Medical Retina Specialist, Refractive and Ophthalmic Surgeon
Dr Tony S. Chen is a comprehensive Ophthalmologist with subspecialist fellowship training in Cataract and Refractive surgery, manual small-incision cataract surgery (MSICS) and Medical Retina. He specialises in refractive (laser) surgery and cataract/lens surgery, and in retinal conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and retinal vein occlusions.
After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Otago, New Zealand and completing Master of Medicine (Ophthalmic Science) at the University of Sydney, Dr Chen underwent specialist ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital. He further completed a fellowship in comprehensive ophthalmology as the Senior Registrar at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney.
Dr Chen then travelled abroad to complete three further subspecialty fellowships, and was awarded with The Sydney Eye Hospital Alumni Association Travelling Scholarship:

Medical Retina Fellowship at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (largest hospital in
the world with a capacity of 10,000) in Taiwan. Under the tutelage of Professors
Yih-Shiou Hwang and Chi-Chun Lai.

Fred Hollows Foundation Fellowship specialising in MSICS, International and
Indigenous Ophthalmology in Honiara, Solomon Islands and Alice Springs,
Australia.

Cataract and Refractive Surgery Fellowship at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in
Adelaide. Under the tutelage of Associate Professor Michael Goggin.
Dr Chen takes pride in keeping up-to-date with the evidence and latest advances in ophthalmology and is actively involved in research. He has written several publications and has presented at multiple conferences. He has also been involved in the training of future Ophthalmologists as a current Adjunct Lecturer at the University of New South Wales.
Dr Chen aims to provide the highest quality eye surgery. He believes in clear
communication and patient-centred care. Dr Chen strides to empower his patients with evidence-based knowledge to tailor individual needs.
Dr Chen is fluent in English, Mandarin, Taiwanese and basic Cantonese.
